Pearlescent

Read my heartbeat
As it pulses with the still moonlight,
So close to yours
In the soft rain dusting down from the sky.
I could lie here forever,
Hidden in the oncoming darkness of the night.
In the slowing bursts of stars,
Breaking apart the shadows.
The silent breath of the undying
Spirits wandering in the sallow dusk.

Oracle, tell me my soul,
As it lies concealed beneath the murky water.
Pull apart the vines
As they hold the pearl together.
The gentle shimmering glow,
Muted by the depths of false vitality
Is dying,
Suppressed by the warmth of swirling waters.

Reality, as it seems,
Is a cruel bedfellow,
Holding you by the neck.
On a leash.
However far you run,
It’ll always pull you back.
